A humanoid robot built by Chinese smartphone maker Honor completed the Beijing half-marathon for robots in 50 minutes and 26 seconds, faster than the current human world record of 57 minutes held by Jacob Kiplimo. The autonomous robot won under weighted scoring rules despite another Honor robot finishing in 48 minutes and 19 seconds but being remote-controlled.

The winning time represents a dramatic improvement over last year's event, where the fastest robot took two hours and 40 minutes to complete the race. About 40% of participating robots competed autonomously while 60% were remote-controlled, according to Beijing's E-Town tech hub.

Not all robots performed as well, with one falling at the starting line and another hitting a barrier during the race. The Associated Press reported the results from today's competition.
