Microsoft releases emergency updates to fix Windows Server issues
Image: Primary Microsoft has issued emergency out-of-band updates to resolve critical issues affecting Windows Server systems following the April 2026 security updates.
The software giant confirmed two separate problems plaguing administrators. Some Windows Server 2025 devices are experiencing failures when attempting to install the KB5082063 security update. More critically, domain controller systems across multiple Windows Server versions are entering restart loops due to crashes of the Local Security
Microsoft released targeted fixes for affected Windows Server versions including 2025, 23H2, 2022, 2019, and 2016 editions, along with their Azure Edition counterparts. The Windows Server 2025 emergency update addresses both the installation failure and domain controller restart issues, while updates for other versions only resolve the domain controller problem.
Administrators also face an unrelated BitLocker recovery issue affecting some Windows Server 2025 systems after installing the same security update. Microsoft separately addressed a longstanding bug that has caused Windows Server 2019 and 2022 devices to upgrade unexpectedly to Windows Server 2025 since September 2024.
This marks the latest in a series of emergency fixes from Microsoft this year, following updates for Bluetooth visibility issues and Routing and Remote Access Service vulnerabilities affecting enterprise Windows devices.
