Tim Cook to remain involved in Apple government relations after CEO transition
Image: Primary Apple announced that Tim Cook will continue to participate in the company's government relations work after he steps down as chief executive this September.
Cook will move to the executive chairman role, where he will assist with certain aspects of the company including engaging with policymakers around the world. The decision addresses concerns about how Apple would manage its relationships with governments after Cook's departure.
The company's current CEO has faced scrutiny over his ties to the Trump administration, including a visit to the White House where he presented President Trump with a commemorative plaque. Cook also attended a documentary screening hours after immigration agents shot and killed an individual in Minneapolis.
When questioned about his political connections, Cook stated he is "not a political person on either side."
Apple confirmed Cook's continued involvement as it prepares for John Ternus to assume the chief executive position. The hardware engineering head was named as Cook's successor earlier today.
The transition plan keeps Cook engaged in global policy matters where he has developed relationships during his tenure leading the technology giant.
