OpenAI said a routing error beginning around 7:43 a.m. PT on September 3 made ChatGPT and Codex unavailable for some users across platforms. The company said it implemented a solution around 8:17 a.m. PT and was monitoring it. Anthropic and xAI also reported outages that morning, though neither OpenAI nor Anthropic identified a shared external cause. xAI attributed Grok's disruption to an outage at its Memphis compute center.
