Users report issues with Claude: Is it down?

Anthropic's Claude artificial intelligence platform experienced a brief outage Wednesday that generated more than 2,000 user reports and elevated errors across multiple models, the company said. The issues began shortly after 3:30 p.m. EDT and affected the app, web console, Claude Code and the Claude API, according to Downdetector logs and Anthropic's status page. An Anthropic spokesperson confirmed in a statement to Newsweek that service had been fully restored across Claude.ai, Claude Code and the Claude API. The spokesperson said the company knows how much people rely on Claude and is grateful for everyone's patience while the team worked to resolve the issue. Earlier the company had appealed for patience as it restored full service. Downdetector data showed the problems were resolved within the hour, with roughly half of all complaints tied to Claude Code. Anthropic's status page had shown multiple services in major outage despite typical 99%-plus uptime over the past 90 days. The incident follows a pattern of service disruptions throughout July involving elevated errors across multiple model generations.
