Pi 1.0 has added MCP support through Codemode, which lets an AI agent compose tool calls in JavaScript, according to the developer's blog. Agents can run concurrent operations, process tool responses and save data for later calls without sending every intermediate result through the model's context.

Codemode also exposes internal APIs for image generation and text classification that are unavailable as regular tools. It runs within the agent's controlling software, separately from the environment where commands execute, using QuickJS inside a WASM runtime. Its sandbox has no network, file system or timers, and limits memory. Codemode is enabled by default only when MCP is enabled.
