Intel shares fell around 28% on Friday after the company forecast fourth-quarter revenue of $15 billion to $16 billion, below analysts' expectations of around $17 billion. TechCrunch reported that the decline cut the value of the government's Intel stake by $12 billion.

Intel also forecast a gross profit margin of 37%, down from 43%, and no positive cash flow amid heavy investment. CEO Lip-Bu Tan said higher memory prices and limited availability were pushing up PC prices and pressuring customers' IT budgets.

Data center revenue grew 78% from the year-earlier quarter, but additional factory capacity remains a constraint. Intel's next Arizona fab is not expected online until 2028.
