Google rolls out Gmail end-to-end encryption for mobile enterprise users

Google rolls out Gmail end-to-end encryption for mobile enterprise users Image: Primary
Google announced Thursday that end-to-end encryption for Gmail is now available on all Android and iOS devices, extending a security feature previously limited to desktop and web interfaces. Enterprise users can now read and compose encrypted emails directly within the Gmail mobile app without requiring additional tools or extensions. The capability allows employees to handle sensitive communications while maintaining encryption protections. The mobile encryption capability supports the same client-side encryption standards available on desktop platforms. Organizations using Google Workspace can enable the feature through administrative controls. Google introduced Gmail client-side encryption in 2022 for enterprise customers to help organizations meet data compliance requirements. The feature allows businesses to maintain control over encryption keys while using Gmail infrastructure. The mobile rollout addresses a gap that had limited adoption among organizations with mobile workforces. Employees previously needed to switch to desktop interfaces or use third-party tools to access encrypted messages on mobile devices. The announcement reflects continued investment in enterprise security features as organizations face increasing regulatory requirements for data protection. Google competes with Microsoft and other providers in the enterprise email security market. BleepingComputer first reported the mobile encryption rollout.
