Google announced general availability of Agent Substrate on Google Kubernetes Engine and the runtime's 1.0 release. It also announced the donation of Agent Substrate, gVisor and OpenRL to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, following their acceptance into its Sandbox last month.

Agent Substrate stores idle agents' memory and files, freeing execution resources for reuse. Google says it restores sessions in under 500 milliseconds and achieves 10x the density of standard container runtimes. Teams can use the managed service or deploy the open-source runtime on any Kubernetes cluster.

The three projects are still working through Sandbox onboarding; gVisor is on a path toward Incubation.
