BNY has built tools to track AI token spending and route tasks to suitable models, CFO Dermot McDonogh told Bloomberg Television. The bank avoids using expensive models for cheap queries and uses models from major cloud providers without being tied to one supplier.

The change follows McDonogh's July statement that BNY did not track token use and focused on results instead. The bank runs about 400 AI agents; AI accounts for only part of its $4B annual technology budget.
