# Amazon API Gateway raises execution log limit to 1 MB with configurable destinations

Amazon API Gateway now supports execution logs of up to 1 MB and configurable delivery destinations for REST APIs, the company said.

Previously, execution logs went to a single API Gateway-managed CloudWatch Logs group and were truncated at 1 KB, limiting visibility into request and response data. Operators can now route logs to their own CloudWatch Logs groups, S3 buckets, or Data Firehose streams, and deliver to multiple destinations at once.

AWS cited routing logs to S3 in Apache Parquet for long-term analysis with Athena while simultaneously sending structured JSON to CloudWatch for real-time alerting. The feature is available in all regions where API Gateway REST APIs operate, including GovCloud, and is charged at vended logs rates.
