Deutsche Telekom is considering merging its business with T-Mobile US in a move that would create a multinational telecom group, according to a Bloomberg report.

Deutsche Telekom, which holds a 53 percent stake in T-Mobile, has reportedly discussed the merger with its US subsidiary. A potential deal would create a corporate group controlling both companies' operations, jointly owned by current investors. The newly created entity could seek separate listings in the US and Europe.

Deutsche Telekom said it does not comment on speculation regarding corporate activity. T-Mobile declined to comment.

The report notes that discussions are in preliminary stages and would likely require political support in both Germany and the US. German state-owned lender KfW owns about 28 percent of Deutsche Telekom, giving it significant influence over whether the deal proceeds. Sources said the new holding company would likely be incorporated in a European jurisdiction outside Germany.

Deutsche Telekom regained its majority stake in T-Mobile in 2023 after holding a stake since 2001. T-Mobile US appointed Srini Gopalan as CEO last year, replacing Mike Sievert in November. Gopalan was previously CEO of Deutsche Telekom.
