NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang visited the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, to commission an NVIDIA DGX GB300 system for the U.S. military's flagship graduate university, according to an NVIDIA blog post. The supercomputer, paired with NVIDIA Mission Control software, gives more than 1,500 in-resident students and about 600 faculty on-premises access to large-scale AI computing, including model training and inference for weather prediction, cybersecurity, and disaster resilience and response planning. The commissioning took place during the school's three-day Converge @ NPS event and builds on an NVIDIA AI Technology Center on the Monterey campus. Admiral Samuel Paparo, commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, said access to advanced computing helps NPS students and faculty understand the opportunities and responsibilities that come with the technologies. Huang told attendees that the most important advice is to engage the technology and that modern AI systems are meant to become easier to use over time. NVIDIA said it has expanded the collaboration through its Deep Learning Institute, putting instructor toolkits in the hands of NPS faculty so AI can be woven through graduate curricula. NPS researchers use AI to model sea conditions, predict atmospheric changes, and build digital twins; through a partnership with MITRE, the school has developed a framework built on NVIDIA Omniverse libraries for high-fidelity digital twin environments. Hardware and systems partners on the DGX GB300 deployment include DDN, VAST, and Vertiv.
