Surveillance camera maker Flock will reduce its workforce by 18%, or around 270 employees, through voluntary buyouts, Reuters reported. Employees are due to leave at the end of October. Flock confirmed the voluntary separation program to TechCrunch on Friday and said it was not a layoff.

The reduction comes amid privacy and civil liberties objections to Flock's vehicle-tracking network, which includes over 100,000 license plate-reading cameras across the U.S. Several law enforcement departments, including the Los Angeles Police Department, have allowed contracts to expire or lapse over those concerns. Security experts have also questioned the system's accuracy after misidentified plates led to improper police stops and arrests.
