Taiwan considers stricter controls on AI chip exports to China

Taiwan considers stricter controls on AI chip exports to China Image: Primary
Taiwan is considering stricter controls on artificial intelligence chip exports to China to give authorities more legal tools against hardware diversion, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing people familiar with the matter. The discussions concern chiefly AI servers containing Nvidia chips and form part of Taiwan's greater alignment with the United States. The proposed controls target smuggling risks. Advanced Nvidia chips have continued reaching China through reported smuggling routes in Southeast Asia despite U.S. export restrictions first imposed in 2022.
