Meta has signed an agreement with Noon Energy to reserve up to 1GW/100GWh of long-duration energy storage capacity, marking the social media giant's first deal in the LDES market.

Under the agreement, Noon will supply Meta access to an initial 25MW/2.5GWh project scheduled for completion in 2028. Noon will then commence delivery of systems under the broader 1GW supply contract. Meta said the deal aligns directly with its goal of supporting AI infrastructure buildout, with Noon's system expected to complement its renewable portfolio.

Noon's solution is a reversible Solid Oxide Fuel Cell system that stores energy as chemical fuel and converts it back to electricity. The company claims its system is designed for more than 100 hours of storage, with some pilot systems demonstrating upwards of 200 hours. Noon is still in the pilot stage, and the Meta deployment is likely to be its first commercial project.

The deal is one of Meta's first in the energy storage space. Last year, the company signed two Energy Storage Agreements with NextEra Energy in New Mexico as part of a larger 2.5GW deal. Other hyperscalers have also backed LDES firms, including Google, which inked its first deal in the space last year with CO2 battery developer Energy Dome.
