Researchers at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland reported a roller-based process that made mycelium sheets about 20 centimeters wide and eight meters long.

The method turns fungal biomass into a wet pulp, mixes it with sorbitol and cellulose, then spreads and dries it. In laboratory tests, the material had strength and durability comparable to traditional leather and was used for a prototype handbag. The researchers say the process uses equipment common in biotechnology and printing, but the material still needs greater tear resistance before mass production.
