US appeals court allows state regulation of Kalshi sports contracts

A US appeals court ruled Friday that Kalshi's sports contracts are not swaps subject only to federal Commodity Futures Trading Commission regulation, Reuters reported. The decision allows states to regulate those contracts under gambling laws. The ruling changes the regulatory position of Kalshi's sports contracts by leaving room for state oversight. Its stated scope is sports contracts, rather than every contract traded on the prediction-market platform.
