New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said her administration is using artificial intelligence to analyze every state rule, regulation and policy to identify outdated legislation. Hochul made the comments during an interview with Bloomberg's Odd Lots podcast. She said her team reviewed the state's legislation with AI in just a couple of months, a process that probably would have taken five years at the staff level. Hochul cited examples of antiquated laws including a $25 fee required to take a dog hunting and a stipulation that pregnant people need a permit to work after midnight. She said the review will allow her and state agencies to get rid of these outdated regulations. Earlier this week, New York became the first state to put a pause on new hyperscale data centers for up to a year while lawmakers develop regulations to protect residents from rising utility costs and threats to natural resources. Hochul said she wants a government that is not on your back but on your side and that using AI has been powerful to do that. She added that she thinks every level of government should use this technology and that she is going to make dramatic changes using the power of AI.
