AliExpress code is reported to run hidden audio fingerprinting
Image: Primary Alibaba has been accused of using hidden code on AliExpress pages to create a Web Audio graph that analyzes frequency data while its gain is set to zero, according to a developer's investigation.
The report says the scripts also collect device and browser attributes and appear to encrypt and transmit data to Alibaba telemetry services. The audio processing reportedly keeps a Bluetooth audio path active even when no sound is playing. Firefox says it has protections against fingerprinting, while Brave says it randomizes audio output to disrupt audio fingerprints.
