The UK government says parts of the EU AI Act apply in Northern Ireland when an AI system is closely integrated with a tangible physical product placed on its market. The government said the act does not apply there in full.

The scope would not capture a Northern Ireland business simply because it uses online or downloadable AI tools to manage work, analyse data or perform business functions. AI regulation in Northern Ireland will largely remain the responsibility of the UK government and Stormont.
