# AWS lets Oracle database customers connect their own Active Directory directly

_Published Thursday, November 5, 2026 at 6:08 PM EST · Infrastructure, Security · Latest · Tier 2 — Notable_

AWS now lets Amazon RDS for Oracle customers authenticate users through their own Microsoft Active Directory without deploying an additional AWS-managed directory. The change removes the previous requirement to establish a trust relationship between a customer's directory and AWS Managed Microsoft AD.

Customers can connect a directory running on premises, on Amazon EC2 or at another cloud provider, then use Kerberos to authenticate database users. AWS says the option carries no additional charge and is available in all commercial AWS Regions that offer RDS for Oracle.
