Exin founder reports AI-controlled brain injection in a live mouse

Exin founder reports AI-controlled brain injection in a live mouse Image: Primary
An AI agent controlled a robotic brain injection in a living mouse, Exin Therapeutics cofounder Gabriel Ocana Santero told WIRED. The agent selected a treatment from 19 options, chose the brain region and injection coordinates, and controlled injection volume and speed after a veterinary surgeon performed the craniotomy. The team used Claude Sonnet 5 after Claude Opus 5.5 refused to proceed. Humans approved the injection plan and retained an emergency motor cutoff. A coordinate-system glitch required code changes by a separate agent, extending a procedure that typically takes about 45 minutes to slightly longer than an hour. The team is waiting to assess the therapy's effect on seizures.
