Eight US states have filed separate lawsuits accusing OpenAI of harming children and misleading customers about ChatGPT's safety, The Verge reported. Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, West Virginia, Arkansas, Arizona, Idaho and Montana allege violations of local consumer protection laws, including failures to warn users about risks.

The states seek civil penalties and orders stopping allegedly misleading safety claims. Some also seek deletion of unlawfully collected personal data. OpenAI says ChatGPT has age-specific protections, including parental controls, break reminders and age-appropriate model safeguards.
