The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles has launched an automated vehicle tracker tool that gives the public access to registration data for autonomous vehicles operating in the state. The tool is part of a new law effective May 28 that requires companies to register their fleets and provide safety information.

Waymo has registered 577 autonomous vehicles in Texas, followed by Avride with 317. Nuro has 47, Tesla has 42, and MOIA, a Volkswagen subsidiary, has 12 electric autonomous microbuses. The data shows the gap between Waymo and Tesla, which offers commercial robotaxi services.

Waymo launched its commercial service in Austin in March 2025 and has since expanded to Dallas, Houston, and San Antonio. Tesla launched its robotaxi service in Austin last summer and has expanded to Dallas and Houston. The registration data also covers self-driving trucks. Aurora holds 91, Gatik AI holds 64, Kodiak AI holds 33, and Waabi holds 13.
