The U.S. Department of Justice announced that TikTok will pay $400 million to settle a 2024 lawsuit alleging violations of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, according to The Verge. The suit alleged that TikTok collected children's data without notifying parents or obtaining consent, and did not delete accounts when parents requested. TikTok is to pay $300 million immediately. A further $100 million is due upon entry of an order vacating a prior consent decree involving TikTok predecessor Musical.ly.
