Anthropic restricts Claude consumer product to users 18 and over

Anthropic says its consumer Claude product is now limited to people over 18, requiring age confirmation at account setup. The company says its safety systems flag signals of possible minor activity and disable those accounts; affected users can appeal through Yoti, an independently audited third-party age verification provider, using facial age estimation, an ID document, or the Yoti Digital ID app. Anthropic says it receives only a pass/fail result and that Yoti deletes selfies and document images after the check. The change narrows who can access a major general-purpose AI assistant and adds an identity-verification step to reinstatement.
