Toshiba expands Philippine HDD plant to double nearline capacity

Toshiba HDDs Image: Primary
Toshiba has spent approximately ¥60 billion ($380 million) expanding hard drive assembly in the Philippines, with nearline production capacity set to double in fiscal 2027 compared with fiscal 2025, Tom's Hardware reports, citing Nikkei. Additional lines at its Laguna Technopark facility are installed and have made their first shipments. The expansion supports planned 30TB-class drives in 2027. Toshiba also plans more automation in cleanroom operations and inspection to improve yields and reduce the requirement for additional employees by 40%. Its longer-term roadmap targets volume production of 65TB-class drives around 2030.
