# BeforeIT researchers report faster open-source economic simulations

Researchers presenting BeforeIT, an open-source Julia package for simulating economies through interacting agents, report that its base model runs orders of magnitude faster than the original Matlab implementation. Their preprint says performance is comparable to a highly optimised implementation built for high-performance computing.

The package supports model variants, an automated forecasting pipeline across multiple countries, and automatic differentiation of the simulation. The software and documentation are freely available under the Apache 2.0 license. The reported speed comparison applies to the base model.
