OpenAI said Apple made false claims in a lawsuit against former employees who joined the artificial intelligence company.

OpenAI said Apple admitted its outside lawyers emailed the wrong person after confusing two Asian last names and conceded a claimed discussion with OpenAI's general counsel never happened. OpenAI said Apple employees reached out to former employee Chang Liu after his Jan. 22 departure to help locate files and information.

OpenAI said Apple failed to properly manage system access when people leave, resulting in residual access for former employees. OpenAI said former employee Tang Tan, who served Apple for more than 24 years, was clear that the team must not use confidential information from other companies.

OpenAI said it offered to work with Apple to resolve the allegations but Apple filed a lawsuit instead. OpenAI said Apple's request for a preliminary injunction is based on false information and is unnecessary because OpenAI does not have or want Apple trade secrets.
