PS Audio and Naim have halted production of high-end disc players after losing access to optical-drive components, Tom's Hardware reported. Both companies retained some drives for repairs and replacements.

PS Audio ended production of its PMG Super Audio CD Transport after D&M, Marantz's parent company, stopped accepting external drive orders. Buying the supplier's entire remaining stock did not sustain production.

Naim lost the supplier of components for its Uniti Star, then saw a prospective replacement manufacturer stop making the parts it needed. PS Audio chief executive Paul McGowan said developing an optical disc reader internally was beyond his company's capabilities.
