OpenCode 2.0 adds shared local service and background agents

OpenCode 2.0 adds shared local service and background agents Image: Primary
OpenCode 2.0 introduces a shared background service that connects its terminal, web and desktop interfaces to the same local process, its developer announced. Programmatic clients automatically discover the service, which also supports connections from other hosts. The release adds a JavaScript interpreter that converts MCP servers and OpenAPI endpoints into functions agents can combine in scripts, allowing multiple tool operations in one round trip. It also adds background subagents, asynchronous shell commands and a library package for running OpenCode in specialized environments. Upgrading brings compatibility costs: version 1.0 plugins will not work, and the server API has changed completely.
