# PlanetScale adds built-in text search to its Postgres databases

PlanetScale released TIN, a text-search extension now generally available for its Postgres and Neki databases. It lets applications find and rank matching documents, search exact phrases and handle approximate matches while continuing to update the underlying data.

The company tested TIN against competing Postgres search tools using an 85-gigabyte collection of Stack Exchange posts. In one test combining several query types, TIN handled 25 times as many queries per second as ParadeDB. These are PlanetScale's own benchmark results.

TIN also supports database features such as replication, backups and consistent access to committed changes, allowing search to operate alongside ordinary database work.
