China AI Firm Discloses $92 Million in Banned Nvidia Chip Servers to Beijing
A Chinese artificial intelligence company has disclosed to Beijing
The company reported the holdings as part of compliance requirements with Chinese regulators. The servers contain high-performance Nvidia GPUs that Washington has barred from export to China over national security concerns. The chips are critical for training large AI models.
The revelation comes amid heightened U.S. scrutiny of Chinese AI development. The Biden administration has imposed increasingly strict controls on advanced semiconductors destined for China, though enforcement remains difficult given the global nature of technology supply chains.
The disclosure raises questions about how the equipment was acquired and whether it entered China through third-party countries or other circumvention methods. Chinese firms have been stockpiling advanced chips since export restrictions were first announced.
Nvidia has previously stated that it complies with all applicable export controls.
