US charges facilitators of North Korean remote IT worker schemes

US charges facilitators of North Korean remote IT worker schemes Image: Primary
The US Justice Department announced charges against 14 people in North Korean remote IT worker schemes, with two US nationals arrested. An Ohio indictment describes a scheme that affected 70 US companies and generated roughly $3 million from 2019 to July 2025. Workers allegedly used false identities and network infrastructure to appear US-based, while American facilitators hosted employer-issued laptops, installed remote-access software and transferred earnings to DPRK-controlled accounts. Separately, the FBI searched 40 Texas residences suspected of hosting laptop farms between September 21 and 25. CrowdStrike cautioned that the operation would likely have limited impact.
