New Delhi authorities banned all dust-generating demolition and outdoor construction activity on November 1 as stricter anti-pollution measures took effect, AFP reported. The restrictions also double vehicle parking charges and introduce work-from-home arrangements for government and private-sector offices to reduce traffic emissions.

Authorities will bar vehicles that fail mandated emission standards from entering the capital. The construction ban takes effect immediately, restricting where building work can proceed during the pollution crackdown. Similar efforts in previous years have done little to prevent the annual winter smog, when cooler temperatures trap pollutants close to the ground.
