Google Cloud released AlloyDB Express in preview for developers and AI coding agents, saying it can create a PostgreSQL database in under two seconds. Databases automatically pause after 15 minutes of inactivity and resume in seconds when a query arrives.

Active compute costs $0.115 per Compute Unit hour, billed by the second; paused compute costs $0.00 per hour, while used storage costs $0.30 per GB-month. Administrators can centrally enforce access and network policies. Google says a one-click upgrade to AlloyDB preserves data, schemas, users and connection strings while adding high availability, read replicas and disaster recovery.
