Meta Debuts Muse Spark AI Model, First Major Release Since Alexandr Wang Hire

Meta has unveiled Muse Spark, its first major large language model since hiring Scale AI founder Alexandr Wang in a deal valued at $14 billion. The debut marks Meta's most significant entry into the foundational AI model market as it attempts to compete with Google and OpenAI. Wang, who now serves as Meta's chief AI officer and leads Meta Superintelligence Labs, spearheaded the development of Muse Spark. The model will be offered in private preview via API to select partners initially, with plans for broader paid API access at a later date. Meta shares rose more than 8 percent following the announcement, reflecting investor optimism about the company's AI ambitions. The company has been investing heavily in AI infrastructure and talent as part of its broader strategy to establish itself as a leader in artificial intelligence. The Muse Spark release represents Meta's first major AI model launch since Wang joined the company nine months ago.
