A California startup's viral robot concept is still in component-level testing with a commercial version more than two years away, the company told The Debrief. Satyress Robotics of Auburn, California, said its Threehalves machine cannot currently walk, manipulate tools, or operate in any field environment despite millions of social media views on images and renders beginning July 28. A representative told The Debrief the company is "quite a ways away from showing the robot in any kind of elegant motion" and that no timeline or price has been set.

The seven-foot, 240-pound centaur design rejects artificial intelligence in favor of full teleoperation by a skilled human using a joystick. Satyress told The Debrief it has no plans to develop meaningful autonomy beyond what prevents the robot from damaging itself. The company argues this approach is a safety feature for the deadliest U.S. jobs, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics data showing logging workers had a fatal injury rate of 110.4 deaths per 100,000 full-time equivalent workers in 2024.

The quadruped lower body provides static stability and passive fail-safes that lock joints on power loss. A quick-connect wrist interface accepts standard human tools like chainsaws and drills. Horn-mounted cameras give operators visual redundancy if actuator sensors fail. The company's website explicitly details vulnerabilities and stopping mechanisms, including pneumatic brakes triggered by piercing pressurized air reservoirs.
