OpenAI said on October 26 that its internal models disproved the Exponential Time Hypothesis, a conjecture that certain logical problems require exponentially increasing computation as they grow. The company said the result was verified in Lean, a system for checking mathematical proofs.

The announcement also claimed proofs establishing mathematical foundations for physical theories and resolving conjectures about wave behavior across all dimensions. OpenAI described the manuscripts as raw research data and invited academic validation.

The company said substantial further research would be needed to turn the computing result into practical algorithms. The original physics proof is not yet public while a group led by David Gross studies it.
