The Trump administration is considering additional semiconductor tariffs that could also cover products using chips, including data-center servers, according to a report cited by Data Center Dynamics.

The discussions remain at an early stage and could change in coming weeks or months. The administration is considering a phase-in period, while Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick favors using exemptions to encourage investment in US chip manufacturing. Tariffs are paid by importers rather than exporters.

An industry group has claimed such tariffs could delay or cancel about 20 percent of data-center projects planned through 2030.
