Gemini for macOS Gains Voice-Powered Dictation and Screen-Aware Reasoning Image: Primary
Gemini for macOS gains voice-powered dictation and screen-aware reasoning. Google announced the update Tuesday, introducing a new voice layer for the Gemini app on macOS that blends intelligent dictation with screen-aware reasoning. The update lets users long-press the Fn key to speak naturally into any text field across the operating system, with the feature transcribing spoken words into polished text by default, automatically stripping filler words and catching mid-sentence corrections. For users who want Gemini to do more than transcribe, an opt-in reasoning mode expands the assistant's capabilities, allowing it to parse what is on screen to execute multi-step tasks such as extracting and summarizing information from highlighted files, images, or documents, composing and rewriting text, or generating and editing images by voice. The voice capability is rolling out globally to all users of the Gemini app for macOS in English, with additional language support planned, and the app is available for download at gemini.google/mac.
