IBM introduced a mainframe processor at the Hot Chips conference on August 24 that the source says can run IBM Z and Arm instruction sets concurrently. The reported 2-nanometer chip has 11 cores above 5.7 GHz and includes AI inference acceleration, a data processing unit and encryption features. The announcement follows an IBM-Arm partnership announced in April. IBM also reported a modular cryogenic-system test, but its Quantum Starling roadmap is scheduled for 2029.
