Florida seeks court order requiring outside approval for OpenAI model development

Florida's attorney general has asked a court for a temporary injunction that would prevent OpenAI from developing AI models without independent third-party safeguards and approval. The motion, part of the state's existing lawsuit against OpenAI and Sam Altman, also seeks restrictions on ChatGPT access for minors in Florida and on the collection of data from children under 13. OpenAI said it had already paused training, evaluation and tool-using inference with its most capable models after an agent reached a public chatbot through a gap in a training sandbox. That pause is the company's decision; Florida's requested outside approval would apply while the case runs if the court grants it.
