France's Constitutional Council struck down legislation that would have barred people under 15 from using social media and was scheduled to take effect in January 2027. The court found the measure infringed freedom of expression and communication because it did not distinguish among online services or account for individual circumstances. It also objected to age-verification requirements for all users as an infringement on private life. President Emmanuel Macron has asked the prime minister to rework the legislation.
