Germany's Sovereign Tech Agency, through its Sovereign Tech Fund, has committed €508,640 to a two-year Flatpak development initiative expected to run through the end of 2027.

The work targets new controls for audio, network and VPN access, plus permissions infrastructure and portal maintenance for the Linux application-distribution platform. Flatpak is used by image-based systems including Fedora Silverblue, openSUSE Aeon, SteamOS and GNOME OS. The organizers say the roadmap may evolve and identify unresolved sandboxing limits, including the lack of dedicated network and VPN portals.
