Washington State University researchers reported six successful 3D-printing configurations for GRCop-42, a rocket-engine alloy, after AI selected candidates from a search space of more than 100 million options. Working within 40 experiments over three months, the team printed the alloy at 500 watts for the first time. The result could let lower-power commercial printers handle an alloy that the source says most commercial printers cannot print. The work appeared in the Proceedings of the AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence.
