MIT and collaborating researchers reported an AI system that adapts to a patient's preoperative CT or MRI scan in about five minutes, then matches surgical X-rays to the 3D scan in seconds with sub-millimeter precision. The researchers said xvr outperformed other AI registration methods by an order of magnitude on a multi-hospital dataset. It remains a research system: the team plans further reliability studies and work on real-time deployment and moving anatomy.
