Chip stocks shed more than $400 billion in market value on Monday, by Yahoo Finance calculations, even as about 7 in 10 S&P 500 stocks rose. Intel fell about 9%, leaving its market value below half its level at the end of September.

The decline followed Intel's disappointing forecast, which sent its shares down nearly 29% on Oct. 30. Micron, Sandisk, Seagate and Western Digital fell roughly 6% to 8% on Monday. Across chip and memory stocks, losses since Oct. 6 reached about $3.7 trillion, by Yahoo Finance calculations. Nvidia accounted for the largest dollar loss, while Intel suffered the steepest proportional decline among the giants.
