GitLab has made its MCP server generally available with GitLab 19.5, letting compatible external AI agents work across code, merge requests, work items, and pipelines under existing user permissions. Model Context Protocol gives agents a defined set of tools for interacting with software services.

The release adds tools for creating branches, reading repository files, searching code by meaning, and inspecting pipeline artifacts. Agents can also start GitLab Duo Agent Platform flows and follow their progress. The server is available across Free, Premium, and Ultimate tiers; GitLab.com limits users to 60 calls per minute on Free and 600 on Premium and Ultimate.
